As the current season nears its end, FC Barcelona is already gearing up for the next campaign, aiming to reinforce their squad despite financial limitations.
In pursuit of this goal, Barcelona is exploring various strategies, such as boosting revenue through economic means, offloading current players, or capitalizing on sell-on clauses from transfers to other clubs. One potential source of income could be Ez Abde, who departed the Catalan club last summer with a sell-on clause in his contract. The Moroccan winger moved to Real Betis, fetching Barcelona €7.5 million.
However, Abde has faced challenges in securing regular playing time at Real Betis, featuring for only 750 minutes in La Liga and scoring just one goal in 22 league appearances, mostly as a substitute. Furthermore, Abde has reportedly fallen out of favor with Real Betis coach Manuel Pellegrini after an incident where he delayed warming up for a match against Girona, leading to his role being given to Rodri Sánchez.
Consequently, according to Mundo Deportivo, Real Betis is contemplating parting ways with the Moroccan winger in the upcoming summer transfer window. The report also suggests interest from AC Milan and several La Liga clubs in Abde.
However, meeting Real Betis’s demands may pose a challenge for potential suitors, as the Spanish side is likely to demand a significant fee, considering the 50% sell-on clause in Abde’s contract. This clause stipulates that half of any transfer fee for the player will go to FC Barcelona’s coffers. Additionally, Barcelona holds a buyback option in Abde’s contract. Yet, given Abde’s current struggles and form at Real Betis, it appears unlikely that Barcelona will exercise this clause.
