Sacha Kljestan, an MLS legend, has described Lionel Messi as a “nightmare” for the rest of the MLS, noting the Inter Miami superstar’s resurgence in 2024. Despite early-season hamstring issues hindering his impact in both MLS and CONCACAF Champions Cup competitions, Messi showcased his brilliance in a recent 3-1 win over Nashville, contributing two goals and an assist.
Kljestan emphasized on the league’s official website why opponents should fear the eight-time Ballon d’Or winner: “Lionel Messi once again stole the spotlight with his two-goal, one-assist performance. Watching the GOAT play, especially when he’s rested and fully fit, is quite enjoyable. A healthy and well-prepared Messi equals trouble for the opposition.”
With nine goals in as many appearances for Inter Miami this season, Messi appears to have overcome his fitness setbacks from March. The 36-year-old veteran is now focused on pursuing major honors once again.
Inter Miami currently leads the MLS Eastern Conference standings. Although there is still a significant portion of the 2024 campaign ahead, including Copa America duties for Messi and his teammates, the Herons will resume action on Saturday with an away game against the New England Revolution.
