“Sources have confirmed to TEAMtalk that Chelsea have made inquiries about RB Leipzig standout Castello Lukeba’s availability, but Paris Saint-Germain also have their eye on the player.
Lukeba, a 21-year-old defender, rose through Lyon’s academy ranks before joining Leipzig last summer in a €34 million deal after making 68 appearances for Lyon’s first team. Since then, he has become a key figure for Leipzig, featuring 37 times across all competitions this season. He has notably played full 90-minute matches in 19 out of Leipzig’s 30 Bundesliga fixtures and has been prominently involved in their Champions League campaign.
Lukeba’s left-footedness and comfort on the ball make him a sought-after asset for top European clubs. Chelsea’s interest in him has been confirmed after the club scouted the one-time France international multiple times earlier this season. Additionally, Lukeba is reportedly open to a move to Stamford Bridge.
However, Chelsea faces stiff competition from other elite clubs in pursuing Lukeba. Manchester United has also been linked with the player, while PSG, known for their pursuit of top young French talents, is also exploring the possibility of signing him.
Regardless of where Lukeba ends up, Leipzig stands to profit significantly from his transfer. The player reportedly has a €70 million release clause in his contract, which becomes active at the end of the next season. To secure his services before then, any interested club, including Chelsea, Manchester United, or PSG, will need to negotiate a substantial fee with Leipzig, who are in a strong position due to Lukeba’s contract running until June 2028.”
